Why Bangladesh?
- 29% of the population lives in relative poverty.
- 1.8 million people lack access to safe water.
- 60% of population endure drinking unsafe water.
- Water is contaminated by arsenic; a poison that causes cancer & damage body systems.
- 1 out of every 5 people in Bangladesh die because of this.
- Lack of manpower & resources to dig wells deep enough to reach drinkable water.
Why Rohingya Refugee Camp?
- World’s largest refugee camp (1M+)
- Most crowded place in the world
- One of the most oppressed people in the world (beaten, raped, killed and thrown into fire)
- Lack access to services, education, food, clean water, and proper sanitation
- Poor infrastructure and sanitation
- Level of waterborne diseases are very high
- Surface water sources are contaminated by harmful pathogens
- Clean water is in demand for the Rohingya refugees.
Why Nigeria?
- 63% of the population living in poverty
- Water is considered “Gold” among Nigerian people.
- 60% of the population does not have access to portable water
- They are required to walk long and difficult paths to fetch water for basic necessities
- Even among the limited sources of water, the available ones are highly contaminated and not suitable for drinking or hygienic purposes.
- As a consequence of using dirty water large percentage of the population has been suffering from water-borne diseases such as Cholera.
- Most of the outbreaks in this country are caused and filled by this very reason.
- Hence, the price of clean water in Nigeria has skyrocketed to the point that people have started to refer it as “Gold”
Why Togo?
- 84% of the population lives in poverty
- High water scarcity and draughts every 5 years
- Less than 3% of people have access to clean water used for drinking and sanitation.
- Women walk a long distance to collect unsafe and polluted water
- Unsafe drinking water transmits infectious diseases including diarrhea, cholera, and dysentery.
- Also leads to schistosomiasis (caused by parasitic worms)
- 2.5k+ people die as a result of unclean water, poor sanitation, and hygiene.
Why Chad?
- Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world (63% in poverty)
- Due to the lack of access to basic education, only 32 percent of the population knows how to read and write.
- Food and clean water are extremely scarce resources in the country
- Water is an extremely precious commodity in the arid eastern provinces.
- Only 4 percent of Chadians living in rural areas have access to clean water.
- Often, polluted water causes diarrhea, cholera, or other water-borne diseases.
- In rural areas, people heavily depend on agriculture and droughts can have devastating socioeconomic effects.
- Around 80 percent of the population depends on subsistence farming and raising livestock.
- 670,000 Chadian children are growing up without parental care.
