- 60% of the population does not have access to portable water
- They are required to walk long and difficult paths to fetch water for basic necessities
- Even among the limited sources of water, the available ones are highly contaminated and not suitable for drinking or hygienic purposes.
- As a consequence of using dirty water large percentage of the population has been suffering from water-borne diseases such as Cholera.
- Most of the outbreaks in this country are caused and filled by this very reason.
- Hence, the price of clean water in Nigeria has skyrocketed to the point that people have started to refer it as “Gold”

- Also leads to schistosomiasis (caused by parasitic worms)
- 2.5k+ people die as a result of unclean water, poor sanitation, and hygiene.

- Often, polluted water causes diarrhea, cholera, or other water-borne diseases.
- In rural areas, people heavily depend on agriculture and droughts can have devastating socioeconomic effects.
- Around 80 percent of the population depends on subsistence farming and raising livestock.
- 670,000 Chadian children are growing up without parental care.
